The silver cigarette box was presented to Miss Juliet Prowse, the well known South African dancer and stage personality, when she was invited to attend and perform along with Frank Sinatra at the inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.Jeremy Astfalck from The Old Corkscrew will be offering for sale a rare cigar box which served as an invitation for the inauguration of John F. Kennedy on 20th January 1961. The cigarette box will be on display at the Sandton Antiques Fair on May 2nd 2004. The story behind the silver cigarette box, which measures 16cm long, was presented to Miss Juliet Prowse, the well known South African dancer and stage personality, when she was invited to attend and perform along with Frank Sinatra at the inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and vice president Lyndon Baines Johnson. Jeremy, who will be giving a talk on world wide trends in silver collecting, reckons that due to the ongoing and intense interest in all aspects of Kennedy’s life, this piece would make a valuable addition to a collection. during this talk Jeremy will also be covering topics such as Irish and Scottish provincial silver, Cape silver and the growing trend of novelty silverware. |
